Hemodynamic Infusion Titration
Physiologic Basis & Practical Application

Up Faculty Schedule Objectives

OBJECTIVES

Explain the physiologic concepts that serve as the foundation for administration of vasoactive and inotropic infusions.

Explain the anatomy and physiology of the autonomic nervous system as it pertains to titration of hemodynamic infusions.

Outline the mechanism of action, physiologic effects, and pharmacokinetics of the following drugs:

   dopamine
   dobutamine
   epinephrine
   esmolol
   Levophed
   milrinone
   Nesiritide
   Nipride
   nitroglycerin
   Neosynephrine
   Vasopressin

Describe the nursing responsibilities when titrating hemodynamic infusions in the patient with:

   decompensated heart failure
   septic shock
   hypertensive emergency
   others

Utilize hemodynamic parameters in clinical decision-making when caring for the patient undergoing vasoactive drug therapy.
