INTRODUCTION
Ventilator technology continues to evolve, offering new
options for life support but also posing substantial challenges for critical
care nurses and respiratory care practitioners. The purpose of this seminar
is to provide a forum for practicing clinicians to update and verify their
knowledge related to this critical topic.
Traditional ventilator modes are
reviewed in detail first, followed by a variety of new modes, including dual
control modes. Methods of monitoring the ventilated patient are presented,
with emphasis on practical application. Opportunities for discussion are
included, and the pace and style of the seminar presenter promote an
educational and enjoyable experience for seminar participants.
